Day twelve of my journey from Pleasanton, California, to New York City takes me from Columbus, Ohio, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Covering approximately 470 miles, the drive takes about seven and a half hours. This leg of my journey holds a special place in my heart as it brings me to the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), where my daughter graduated in 2012 with a major in Economics and a minor in Political Science.
Leaving Columbus, I am filled with anticipation and nostalgia. The drive through the rolling hills of Ohio and Pennsylvania provides a serene backdrop for reflecting on the many visits I made to Philadelphia during my daughter’s college years. Each mile brings back memories of those exciting times, filled with pride and joy.
Arriving in Philadelphia in the late afternoon, I head straight to the UPenn campus. The sight of the iconic College Hall and the bustling walkways brings a flood of memories. I recall the first time I visited the campus with my daughter when she was just a prospective student, filled with dreams and aspirations. Little did we know then how profoundly those years at UPenn would shape her future and our lives.
As I walk through the campus, I can't help but relive those vibrant years. One memory stands out vividly: a week-long visit when I stayed close to the campus. That week was a rare opportunity to immerse myself in the university environment, experiencing a slice of my daughter’s life as a student. We attended lectures, explored the historic buildings, and strolled through the beautiful Locust Walk lined with trees and student activities.
The highlight of my memories, however, is the graduation ceremony in 2012. The sense of pride and accomplishment was overwhelming as I watched my daughter walk across the stage to receive her diploma. The culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance was a moment of pure joy for our family. We celebrated her achievements and reflected on the journey that had brought her to this point.
Walking through the campus now, I am filled with a sense of gratitude. UPenn was not just an educational institution for my daughter; it was a place that fostered growth, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. It played a crucial role in shaping her into the accomplished individual she is today, and it holds a special place in our family’s history.
As I prepare to rest for the night in Philadelphia, I am filled with a deep sense of fulfillment and nostalgia. Revisiting UPenn has been a reminder of the importance of family, education, and the enduring bonds that connect us. This journey, with its carefully chosen stops and meaningful experiences, continues to be a transformative and unforgettable adventure.
Very close , good night. Great journey
